Even as 36 people are dead and many injured, the blame game over the accident has begun. While the UP government has blamed the collapse of the railings in the foot over bridge being behind the stampede, the Railway Minister has categorically ruled it out. Though railways concede to overcrowding being behind the tragedy, the UP government has accused it of failing to ply adequate trains to cater to the rush. However, for now eyewitnesses attribute police lathcharge and the panic thereafter as being behind the stampede.
