There seems to be no end to violence against women and the police apathy accompanying it. In Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh, a minor girl was molested by four men and when their rape attempt failed they poured kerosene on her and tried to set her on fire. The four men escaped after neighbours rushed to the spot on hearing her scream. But adding up to the agony, was the police action that followed. The police instead of nabbing those involved, detained the girl's brother. The brother was reportedly forced to sign a paper stating that a medical checkup of the girl was not required. Despite the victim's family and locals staging a protest outside the district magistrate's residence, the police have merely registered a case of eve-teasing against the four accused.
