Karnataka on Thursday night started releasing the Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu from the Krishna Raja Sagar Reservoir. This is in line with the Supreme Court order on Wednesday when it asked the state to release 10,000 cusecs of water. The decision to release the water comes amid protests by Karnataka farmers, prompting Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar to lead a team of MPs to meet the Prime Minister. Shettar said, that the team will impress up the PM the distressing situation in the state arising from the release of water. He also said that they would seek legal opinion before deciding the next step on the issue.
