While Ajit Pawar's resignation last month was the flash point relations between the NCP and the Congress have been on the edge for quite a while now.. Mainly over the NCP suspicion that the Congress is implicating its ministers in corruption cases. Another complaint it has is that chief minister Prithviraj Chavan is sitting over its proposals while at the same time reducing its clout in its traditional strongholds. Of late Chavan has questioned the NCP's role in escalating costs in irrigation projects and for perpetuating the irrigation crisis in drought-prone Vidarbha region.
