Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday called the Income Tax notice to her in the National Herald case 'political vindictiveness'. She said that the 'witch-hunt' will help the Congress come back to power.

"We have been issued notices by the Income Tax department, it's political vindictiveness. Such political witch-hunt will help us come back faster," Sonia said.

Sonia Gandhi and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi have been summoned by a Delhi court on August 7 in the National Herald case. The court had found prima facie evidence against Sonia in the case and she has been summoned as accused after Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy has alleged that the Congress gave an unsecured loan to Sonia-owned Young Indian Ltd to acquire National Herald's holding company Associated Journals.

Swamy has alleged misappropriation of assets worth Rs 2000 crore of the National Herald newspaper. Swamy had accused Sonia and Rahul Gandhi and others of conspiring to cheat and misappropriate funds by just paying Rs 50 lakh by which YI obtained the right to recover Rs 90.25 crore which the AJL had owed to the Congress party. He alleged that in the present scenario over Rs 2,000 crore worth of assets also got transferred to YI, whose 76 per cent of shareholding vests with Sonia and Rahul Gandhi and the remaining shareholding of 24 per cent vests with the other accused.

"Complainant has established a prima facie case against the accused under section 403 (dishonest misappropriation of property, 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) read with section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC. Hence, let the accused Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Moti Lal Vohra, Oscar Fernandes, Suman Dubey and Sam Pitroda be summoned for August 7, 2014. Let the Young Indian be summoned through it's authorised representative for the same date," Metropolitan Magistrate Gomati Manocha had said.

The Congress had said that it will move High Court against the notice.
