Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has filed a defamation case against Congress spokesperson KK Mishra for alleging the role of his family in the Pre-Medical Entrance Test scam. He had earlier rejected the allegation that his family members are involved in the scam saying that there is no proof that his family benefitted from the scam.
"Do they not attempt any fact checking before carrying out such ill-motivated baseless canards in media? Did relatives of my wife get selected in exam? Not even one. They say there were 139 phone calls from the CM house. Call details report show not even one call is from CM house," Chouhan said.
The Congress had pointed fingers at Union Minister Uma Bharti as well. She, too, had dismissed the allegations that she recommended some students' names.
"The allegations against me are baseless. Congress is playing dirty politics over this case and is trying to mislead the people," Bharti said.
Over 1,100 students were given admissions fraudulently at 19 medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh. Over 500 people have been arrested in the case, including officials of the state Professional Examination Board.
"I stand by my allegations, they'll be proved right," Mishra said.
