Today can only be described as Mamata Banerjee's day of reckoning. The TMC Chief and West Bengal Chief Minister's tumultuous three and half year relationship with the Congress has reached a point of no return. Though Mamata created a window for negotiations and gave the government 72 hours of notice, to agree to her demands of a cut in diesel prices, an increase in the cap on subsidised LPG cylinders and a roll back in FDI in multi-brand retail, no concessions were offered. The fact that the new retail guidelines were notified hours after she said she was sticking to her schedule for exiting the UPA, is a clear message that the coalition is resigned to a future without her.
