Vilasrao Dagadojirao Deshmukh, popularly known as Vilasrao was the current Minister of Science and Technology and Minister of Earth Sciences. He passed away on 14th August 2012. On 7 August 2012, Deshmukh was reported critically ill with kidney and liver failures and on life support in a Chennai hospital. He was undergoing treatment at Breach Candy hospital in Mumbai for about a week and had to be shifted to Global hospitals, a super-speciality hospital in Chennai due to deterioration in his condition.
