Even as the violence in Assam brought illegal migration from Bangladesh into political focus, the courts are cracking down too. A sessions court in Assam has rapped the Union government for not taking firm action against 3 crore illegal Bangladeshi migrants staying in the country. The court made stinging remarks on continued influx and slow govt action while awarding life sentence and 10 years in prison to two Bangladeshi nationals respectively in a case of dacoity-cum-murder bid. The judge said a large number of crimes have come to light where Bangladeshi nationals were involved in heinous offenses such as robberies, dacoities, murder and rape.
