Violence erupted in Sopore town of Jammu and Kashmir but voters in six other states drummed up impressive numbers led by West Bengal in the penultimate round of the Lok Sabha elections on Wednesday.
I n this round of polling, more than 95 million people are eligible to vote in 64 Lok Sabha constituencies.
West Bengal raced towards a potentially record-breaking mark, reaching an impressive 62% voting by 1pm while in other states voting was picking up as the day progressed.
Uttarakhand too notched up around 44% voting till 1pm during the single-day polling in all five seats.
In Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla constituency -- where polling is being held alongwith Leh -- clashes erupted in many places in Sopore, the hometown of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru and a bastion of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
