The Sensex on Friday surged 611.95 points to hit new record high of 22,955.99, while the Nifty regained 6,800 level. The Sensex rose on hopes the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would win a majority in elections set to conclude next week, sending blue chips such as ICICI Bank sharply higher. The Sensex touched a life high of 22,959.33 points in intraday trade.
