Congress complains to EC, demands FIR against Narendra Modi

The Election Commission of India on Wednesday asked the Gujarat chief secretary and director general of police to take action against Narendra Modi and others for violation of the model code of conduct. Narendra Modi's had addressed the media after casting his vote on Wednesday and had also displayed BJP's symbol.

The poll panel in the directive has said that "the commission has seen the video recording of Modi at a meeting in Ahmedabad after he cast his vote today in the morning. From the substance, tone and tenor of the address made by Modi and the statements made by him at the meeting, thereby displaying to the public election matter by means of television in polling areas going to polls today it is evident that the said address was in the nature of political speech and intended and calculated to influence and affect the results of elections in the constituencies going to poll today not only in Ahmedabad but also in all other constituencies in Gujarat and elsewhere in the country."
