In a setback for the Gujarat government, the Supreme Court set aside its appointment of Justice K R Vyas as the chairman of the monitoring authority overseeing the probe into the fake encounters in the state. The court said "it was not proper for the state to issue a notification on the appointment just one day before the case was listed in court.
