Jammu: Chief of Army staff General Bikram Singh's day-long visit to the line of control (LoC) in Poonch, following the killing of the five Army jawans on Tuesday, has been cancelled due to bad weather, defence sources said.
"General Singh arrived here this morning at technical airport and flew to Poonch, but due to bad weather his chopper could not land despite several attempts," official sources said.
Major General VP Singh, in charge Poonch-Rajouri sectors, was asked to reach Akhnoor where the Army chief had halted after making two to three futile attempts to reach Poonch. "Major General VP Singh will apprise the Army chief about the current situation along LoC in Rajouri and Poonch," the sources added.
Five Indian soldiers were killed in an attack on an ambush party by the Pakistan Army on LoC on Tuesday in Poonch. Earlier on his arrival at Jammu on Wednesday morning, Army chief Gen Bikram Singh laid wreaths on the bodies of the five martyrs who laid down their lives at Chaka de Bagh in Poonch.
