As India celebrated its 62nd birthday as a republic we only have to look back at some recent events which highlight the grim state of affairs. On the one hand the last few months have seen an unprecedented assault on our freedoms culminating in the craven surrender to the mob over the Rushdie issue. The political discourse in the nation which defines policy making has plummeted to a disturbing low. The promise of the nation is shackled by the twin threats of intolerance and poverty. But while we present these issues to you- please remember that all these challenges also present an opportunity.
