As India mulled over the possible ways to bring back IAF Pilot Abhinandan Varthaman there are 54 Prisoner of War have come to be known as 'the Missing 54'. The Missing 54 are the soldiers and officers of Indian Armed Forces who were given the status of missing in action or killed after Indo Pak war 1971. However, they are believed to be alive and imprisoned in Pakistani Jail.

पुलवामा हमले के बाद भारत ने जवाबी कार्रवाई करते हुए पीओके में घुसकर जैश के मोहम्मद के प्रमुख ठिकानों को खत्म कर दिया । इसके बाद ही पाकिस्तान ने अपने लड़ाकू जहाज भारतीय सीमा पर भेजे जिसके जवाब में विंग कमांडर अभिनंदन ने एफ16 को मार गिराया । इस दौरान पाकिस्तान की सेना ने उन्हें कब्जे में कर लिया और अब सामने आया है कि ऐसे 54 भारतीय सैनिक अब भी पाकिस्तान की जेलों में बंद है ।
