In light of the 100th anniversary of the March First Independent Movement, the South Korean government is set to announce the final list of people who will be granted special presidential pardons.
According to the Justice Ministry, the list will be approved during a Cabinet meeting led by President Moon on Tuesday.
After that, Justice Minister Park Sang-ki will brief the media on the contents and the significance of the pardons.
The list will likely include those who were imprisoned for protesting the Sewol-ho ferry disaster, the construction of Jeju Naval Base, the deployment of the U.S. anti-ballistic missile defense system in Korea, and Japan's wartime sex slavery issue.
The pardons are not expected to be granted to politicians or those convicted of major economic crimes, including bribery, embezzlement and breach of trust.
