Hundreds of people honor the memory of the children of the Bahro family
Seven Syrian children die in early morning Halifax house fire

The Canadian Press
Hundreds of people, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, gathered Wednesday night in Halifax's main square to support the family of Syrian refugees who lost seven children in a fire.

They gathered at the Grand Parade in front of City Hall and listened solemnly to reading the names and ages of the children, followed by a moment of silence.

The children whose lives were cut off are: Ahmad, 14 years old; Rola, 12 years old; Mohamad, 9 years old; Ola, 8 years old; Hala, 3 years old; Rana, 2, and Abdullah, born in Canada in November.

MP Andy Fillmore said the Barho family arrived in Halifax as refugees but became "our neighbors, our friends".

"The loss we feel tonight is so heavy because they were our neighbors. Syrian refugees, yes. But Nova Scotians too, "he said.

Mr. Trudeau did not speak, but remained in the crowd, with his hands clasped and his head down, before going to a fundraising event already scheduled for the program.
