NORWALK, OHIO — Ethan Lindenberger is 18 years old, and for his birthday he decided to treat himself to getting vaccinated, according to NPR.
Because Ethan's mother Jill Wheeler is anti-vaccine, he was never vaccinated for hepatitis, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, or chickenpox—yikes.
According to NPR, Lindenberger posted on Reddit last November asking for help on getting vaccinated and was flooded with more than 1,000 responses.
According to the CDC, as of January this year, measles has been confirmed in 10 states, with the agency also watching outbreaks in New York state and the Big Apple. Let that sink in for a moment.
After doing his own digging, Ethan tried to start a conversation with is mom by giving her a CDC article about how vaccines don't cause autism. Let's just say that didn't go too well.
According to NPR, Lindenberger got his first round of shots for HPV, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and flu, which has caused a bit of tension with mom and pops on the home front.
Thank god Ethan is now legally an adult, which means his mom can't stop him from getting vaccinated, though that hasn't stopped her from trying to show him the anti-vax light.
Ethan has a date with more shots scheduled for later this month.
