A hundred years ago on this date, Korean students in Japan issued a declaration of Korea's independence from the Japanese Empire.
That declaration was a catalyst... for the historic March 1st Independence Movement that occured a few weeks later.
Today, for the February 8th declaration, commemorations was held at the Korean YMCA buildings in Tokyo and Seoul at 11 AM, local time.
The event in Tokyo was attended by around 250 people, including the South Korean minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, Pi Woo-jin .
The ceremony in Seoul was attended by around 400 people.
