Many people in North Korea do not have ready access to clean water and food,... leading to illnesses and malnutrition.
To help them out,... three more aid packages are being planned by international NGOs.
Hong Yoo has the full story.
On Wednesday, the UN Security Council Sanctions Committee on North Korea announced... that a sanctions waiver has been granted to two humanitarian aid packages for North Korea.
With this, both the Swiss Humanitarian Aid and World Vision will be able to help North Koreans get access to clean water... within the 6-month window granted to them via the exemptions.
The Swiss Humanitarian Aid can import metal wires needed to build wirework containers that help prevent floods,... and tools needed to manufacture pumps that produce drinkable water using solar energy.
The materials will cost a total of almost 100-thousand U.S. dollars.
World Vision was allowed to take 25 tons of cement, metal pipes of various sizes, and welding rods to build a water line in the county of Samjiyeon-gun, Yanggang-do province.
To help North Koreans who are suffering from malnutrition, the World Food Programme announced their new plan to provide around 2.8 million people with food worth around 160 million US dollars.
This plan will last for three years,... with the focus of achieving the United Nation's international aid goal of eliminating starvation and reducing malnutrition worldwide by 2030.
