Energy Minister Claire Perry has insisted that the energy market is "much fairer" despite a rise in the energy price cap. Around 15 million households will see their energy prices rise after regulator Ofgem hiked price caps designed to protect those on poor value deals. The energy watchdog said it will increase the price cap for default and standard variable gas and electricity tariffs by £117 to £1,254 a year from April 1 due to hikes in wholesale costs.
