1 Meera, also known as Mirabai, was a Bhakti saint, Hindu mystic poetess and above all, the most adherent devotee of Shri Krishna.
2 She is celebrated as an important figure of the 16th century, who got wide support during the Bhakti movement culture.
3 Born as a princess into a Rajput family, Sant Meera gave up all the luxuries since she was introduced to an idol of the Krishna in her childhood.
4 Her family got her unwillingly married to the crown prince of Mewar — Bhoj Raj. He respected his wife’s values and chastity.
5 Meera’s in-laws didn’t accept her pious devotion, which made Bhoj Raj the only family member who supported her, but fate brought him to death.
6 As per the famous legend, after his death, her in-laws tried to poison her and Lord Krishna himself appeared to save her.
7 After the death of her father-in-law, she renounced the princely comforts in pursuit of her love for Lord Krishna by transforming herself into a Jogan (an ascetic Sadhavi).
8 During this period, she depicted her emotions and holiness through her soulful Bhajans and songs.
