1 Sri Raghavendra Swami or Raghawendra Tirtha was a renowned saint and a patron scholar of Dvaita philosophy in South India.
2 He was born in a Kannada Madhva Brahmin family in 1595. Raghavendra Swami was a great scholar who had a deep insight into Shastra since the beginning.
3 He studied the ancient Vedic texts and other Shastras in Kumbhakonam (the center of learning at the time) under Sudhindra Theertha.
4 He was a skilled musician and an expert in playing the Veena. He was often addressed as Rayaru by his followers.
5 He succeeded his guru Sudheendra Theertha as the head of the Sri Matha and also established an important pilgrimage called Brindavan in Mantralayam.
6 His disciples observed him singing in deep devotional ecstasy and seldom went into raptures while gazing at the divine icon of Lord Krishna.
7 He dedicated his life in offering his services not only to mankind and Lord but also was compassionate about the animals.
8 He worked on several commentaries including Sudha Parimala, Nyaya Muktavali, Dasha Prakarana, Chandrika Prakasha, Shri Ramacharitramanjari, Shri Krishnacaritramanjari and more.
