Mahaganapathi Homa is believed to be the most powerful sacrifice ritual that brings about happiness, victory in major tasks and new ventures, prosperity and good health for the family.
It is performed with Ashta Dravya, that stands for the eight essential offerings.
These include; grated or whole coconut, banana, honey, ghee, Durva grass, Modaka (Lord Ganesha's favourite sweet), jaggery and puffed rice.
The devotees affected by Kethu Dosha are specifically advised to conduct this Homa, as Lord Ganesha is said to be the planetary overlord of Kethu.
The stringent followers state that this Homa is a rigorous sacrifice ritual wherein the Vedic hymns are chanted with utmost care.
However, others claim that the procedures of this Homa are really simple and can be conducted by the devotee on their own.
Any Sankashti Chaturthi (especially Vinayaka Chaturthi) is considered highly auspicious for performing this Homa.
