1 Champa is a flower that comes in like half a dozen varieties and is entitled with many names in different languages.
2 All of these flowers are famous for their exquisite fragrance and have been a part of the Indian traditions right from ancient days.
3 This beautiful, delightfully scented cream-yellow flower is used often in worship and other religious ceremonies, especially for Goddess Laxmi.
4 However, this fragment flower is kept away from the Lord Shiva and the Shiv Purana has explained the reason behind this.
5 This scripture has a fascinating tale, where it is mentioned that Lord Shiva actually cannot deny a devotee who worships him with the Champa flowers.
6 Sage Narada had once come across an evil Brahmin who was plucking flowers from a Champa tree for his evil deeds.
7 When Sage Narada went and asked the Champa tree whether someone plucked the flowers, the tree denied.
8 Although Sage Narada found out the truth when he saw the Shiv-Linga of the nearby temple covered in Champa flowers.
9 Sage Narada then cursed the Champa tree that it will never be accepted in the worship of Lord Shiva for not telling the truth and mislead the sage.
