In Hinduism, Revathi is identified as the wife of Balarama, the elder brother of Lord Krishna.
She was the daughter of King Kakudmi also called Raivata, who was a Suryavansha (descendant of the Hindu Sun God’s dynasty).
The great poet Kalidas had described Revati’s splendid beauty in one of his verse. The most beautiful feature of Revathi according to him was her amber coloured eyes.
In her previous life, Revathi was born as Jyotishmati to King Chakshush Manu. She desired to marry the mightiest being on earth.
It is believed that when Revathi reached a marriageable age King Kakudmi went to Brahma Lok to ask an eligible match for his daughter.
Lord Brahma told King Kakudmi that there was only one person befitting his daughter and that was the elder son of Vasudeva, Lord Balarama.
However, due to the difference in the timing in Brahma Lok and Bhulok, 27 maha yugas passed away on earth and Revathi was now way to older than Balarama.
It is said that Balarama hit her with his plough on her head and shoulder, on which she mystically shrunk to the perfect size and that’s when he accepted her as his wife.
