Iowa may become the next state to allow people convicted with felonies to vote in future elections. Business Insider reports the state's Republican Governor Kim Reynolds proposed in her Condition of the State address on Tuesday that the state amend its constitution to remove its ban on formerly convicted felons voting. Florida residents in November voted to remove their state's ban. Iowa, Kentucky, and Virginia are currently the only three states left in the country with lifetime voting bans. If Iowa were to make the constitutional amendment, an estimated 52,000 Iowans will regain their ability to vote. Reynolds said Tuesday, "I believe Iowans recognize the power of redemption; let's put this issue in their hands."
