President Trump went after Chuck Schumer on Thursday in a tweet.
President Trump on Thursday lashed out at Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer over his description of the Wednesday's White House meeting on the partial government shutdown.
"Cryin Chuck told his favorite lie when he used his standard sound bite that I 'slammed the table & walked out of the room. He had a temper tantrum.' Because I knew he would say that, and after Nancy said no to proper Border Security, I politely said bye-bye and left, no slamming!" Trump tweeted.
Business Insider reports: "Democrats and Republicans had differing accounts of how the meeting ended — just 20 minutes after it began. Following the meeting, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York said Trump 'sort of slammed the table' and walked out of the room."
In a tweet on Wednesday, Trump called the meeting a "total waste of time."
"Just left a meeting with Chuck and Nancy, a total waste of time. I asked what is going to happen in 30 days if I quickly open things up, are you going to approve Border Security which includes a Wall or Steel Barrier? Nancy said, NO. I said bye-bye, nothing else works!" Trump wrote.
The two sides "remain exactly where they started" when the shutdown began on December 22 after lawmakers failed to agree on Trump's demand for border wall funding, notes Axios.
