SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA — A 16-year-old Taiwanese national was arrested over a stabbing incident outside of Scientology's headquarters in Sydney, Australia.

The suspect was trying to stop his mother, who was a member of the Church of Scientology, from undergoing a "purification ceremony," reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

Detectives said the suspect was asked to leave the church due to a "domestic incident," the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

He was being escorted by the victim, a 24-year-old Taiwanese national who was also a member of the Church of Scientology.

The suspect allegedly took out a 25-centimeter-long kitchen knife and stabbed the 24-year-old in the neck.

Unfortunately, the 24-year-old Taiwanese man didn't make it. The police said the alleged assailant also stabbed another church member, a man aged 30.

Police arrived and drew their tasers and the suspect dropped the knife.

The suspect has been charged with common assault (domestic violence), common assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray, according to ABC News Australia.

He was refused bail on a murder charge at Parramatta Children's Court.

The suspect will require a Mandarin interpreter when he appears again in court on Monday, ABC News reports.
