The family of Otto Warmbier, an American college student who died following his release from captivity in North Korea last year, have requested 1-point-1 billion US. dollars of compensation from North Korea.
According to VOA on Tuesday, the Warmbiers requested compensation on four areas, including reparation for Warmbier's mental anguish and consolation for his parents.
The calculation was based on a similar captivity case that led to the death of a missionary.
On that occasion, a U.S. district court fined the North 300-million dollars, but the Warmbiers claim this wasn't enough to deter Pyeongyang from "heinous acts" and they are seeking a larger amount to send a message to the North
A hearing will be held on Wednesday in Washington.
