Former FBI Director James Comey again slammed President Trump in a tweet.
Former FBI Director James Comey on Sunday slammed President Trump, accusing him of lying in a tweet.
Comey posted a screenshot of Trump's tweet and wrote: "This is from the President of our country, lying about the lawful execution of a search warrant issued by a federal judge. Shame on Republicans who don't speak up at this moment — for the FBI, the rule of law, and the truth."
The FBI raided the office of Trump's former attorney, Michael Cohen, in April based on what his own attorney admitted was "a series of search warrants."
At the time, Trump called the move "an attack on our country."
And he resumed the criticism Sunday, tweeting: "Remember, Michael Cohen only became a 'Rat' after the FBI did something which was absolutely unthinkable & unheard of until the Witch Hunt was illegally started. They BROKE INTO AN ATTORNEY'S OFFICE! Why didn't they break into the DNC to get the Server, or Crooked's office?"
His post comes days after Cohen was sentenced to three years in prison for charges that "included arranging hush-money payments to two women who said they had affairs with Mr. Trump, tax evasion, making a false statement to a bank and lying to Congress," reports the New York Times.
Cohen has directly implicated the president, saying during a recent ABC News interview that Trump knew about the payments and knew they were wrong.
However, the president has denied culpability, tweeting Thursday, in part: "I never directed Michael Cohen to break the law. He was a lawyer and he is supposed to know the law. It is called 'advice of counsel,' and a lawyer has great liability if a mistake is made. That is why they get paid."
