President Moon Jae-in, during a speech at a ceremony to mark Trade Day, emphasized once again the need to boost the country's exports, and said its important that the country's strength in exports helps create 'inclusive growth.'
"We need to turn our export success into inclusive growth. Expansion of exports should lead to the creation of quality jobs and eventually improve people's lives."
President Moon mentioned the importance of promoting new export products and cultivating new overseas markets for Korean products, as well as the need to create new exporters to drive the economy in the future.
"In particular, the diversification of exports begins with the participation of more small-and-mid-size businesses. The government will provide active support so more small-and-mid-size enterprises can move into the export market."
And he said the growth of exports by SMEs could help the export-dependent economy compete in a climate of trade protectionism and global economic slowdown.
He added his administration will do its part to promote free trade on the global stage,.. .and said it will continue negotiations on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership , a 15-country free trade agreement which includes China and Japan, with the aim of wrapping up the deal before the end of 2019.
