Counting of votes for the Karnataka by-polls is currently underway. Polling for three parliamentary seats — Ballari, Shivamogga and Mandya — and two assembly constituencies, Ramanagaram and Jamkhandi, took place on Nov. 3. In early leads, in Bellary, the Congress was significantly ahead of the BJP making it difficult for the BJP's Shanta to catch up. Yedyurappa's son Raghavendra is cursing ahead in Shivmogga while it is an easy walkover for HD Kumaraswamy's wife Anitha Kumaraswamy in Ramanagara. The results are likely to have an impact on the forthcoming assembly elections in five states. It is also a big litmus test for the congress-JDS combine.
