Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtenay are British acting legends of the same generation. They both emerged in the '60s and illuminated classic Brit flicks of that era like The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner and Georgy Girl. It's surprising, perhaps, that they'd never shared screentime until Andrew Haigh approached them with his quietly seismic marital drama, 45 Years. The film definitely bears out the 'better late than never' cliché, as does an Empire chat with the pair that takes in their friendship, tips for the football season and memories of upsetting Sean Connery on Zardoz.
