According to Business Insider, "Plastic straw bans are going into effect around the US. California recently became the first state to nix plastic straws from restaurant tables." In fact in 2019, if a customer wants a straw they will have to ask for one. Seattle also became the first major US city to ban single-use utensils and plastic straws. Corporations like Starbucks, Aramark, and American Airlines are also making an effort to stop offering plastic straws.
