South and North Korea will be starting a series of talks this coming week as part of efforts to implement the agreements reached last month at the summit in Pyeongyang.
These talks will cover projects in forestry, transportation, public health and more.
Kim Hyesung reports.
The two Koreas have finalized the list of delegates who'll attend talks on forestry cooperation.
The Unification Ministry says the South Korean delegation will be led by Park Jong-ho, the deputy director of the Korea Forest Service,... who will meet with the North Korean delegation led by Kim Song-jun from the Ministry of Land and Environmental Protection.
The two sides will meet at the Gaeseong joint liaison office Monday to discuss the implementation of the Pyeongyang Joint Declaration, which calls for cooperation in areas such as controlling pine tree pests and modernizing tree nurseries.
The talks on forestry cooperation will mark the start of a series of other joint undertakings.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Seoul and Pyeongyang could start joint on-site inspections as early this week to reconnect their railways, though that would depend on the outcome of consultations between the South Korean government and the United Nations Command over the crossing of the Military Demarcation Line.
At the latest high-level talks, the two Koreas agreed to conduct field surveys of the Gyeongui Road along the west coast in October... and the Donghae Road along the east coast in November.
In addition, Seoul and Pyeongyang are scheduled to hold talks later this month on health-related issues to prevent the spreading of contagious diseases... and on sports-related issues such as their potential co-hosting of the 2030 Summer Olympics.
