A farmer angry after he was denied planning permission built a massive tower of straw bales in protest - which fell over and destroyed GRAVES in a cemetery next door. Francis Courtenay, 71, put up the 25tt hay mountain after his application for three new homes on his land was refused on the grounds they would have been an eyesore. He decided to stack bales on top of each other higher than the proposed homes to 'make a point'. But his protest backfired spectacularly when several bales flew off the top as Storm Callum hit.
