Its India's moment of truth and it’s the country's biggest moment of shame. The MeToo movement triggered by Tanushree Dutta's claims against veteran actor Nana Patekar has now opened a can of worms. With more and more names coming out its clear this is now a movement that could be the big defining moment for India's checqered history to create gender equality. From Bollywood to entertainment to newsrooms, women have been coming out with their horrific stories.. As we speak singer Abhijeet has also been named and shamed. Unlike its American counterpart, it has not been spurred by investigative journalism, but a spontaneous outpouring in the last few days. And the allegations have ranged from awkward or creepy encounters, lewd behaviour and suggestive text messages to aggressive sexual advances and outright assault. This has prompted some women to ask others to use caution before calling someone out on social media platforms for something "trivial". And that’s the real worry about this movement. And that’s where its strength will truly be tested its ability to create a change. A change in mindsets, a change in attitudes and creation of workplaces that are truly equal. In most cases it may end up being your word against mine. And how do we as a society ensure women find the courage to speak up. No matter how long they muster the courage.
