A volcano erupted on the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia on Wednesday, October 3.
This video was captured by eyewitness Donny Masengi. It shows smoke billowing from the Soputan volcano. Ash was thrown at least 2.5 miles into the sky.
Posting photos of the eruption on Instagram, a spokesman for Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources advised the public not to travel within a 2.5 mile radius of the volcano.
The eruption of the Soputan volcano is the latest natural disaster to impact the Indonesian island of Sulawesi in recent weeks. Communities in Palu and Donggala Regencies, which are located around 600 miles southwest of Soputan, were devastated by a 7.7 magnitude earthquake and tsunami that struck on September 28.
