Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday hailed Navjot Singh Sidhu’s statement on opium and felt glad that the issue of drugs was raised at the national level. Reacting on Sidhu’s statement, Amarinder Singh said, “I’m glad that this issue of drugs has been brought up at national level, particularly opium. We have been clamouring for this issue ever since our government in 2002-2007. I raised this issue with the Prime Minister and in Chief Minister’s conference and said that India should have a drug policy. I hope this matter is resolved for once and for all.” Speaking on demand for legalising opium cultivation, Navjot Singh Sidhu said that his uncle used to take opium as a medicine and lived a long life.
