President Trump posted another tweet about Brett Kavanaugh late Friday evening.
President Trump on Friday asserted that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh would end up being a "truly great" justice, hours after ordering a new FBI investigation into the sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh.
"Just started, tonight, our 7th FBI investigation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh. He will someday be recognized as a truly great Justice of The United States Supreme Court!" Trump wrote on Twitter.
Earlier on Friday, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders released a statement by Trump, noting that the FBI will conduct "a supplemental investigation to update Judge Kavanaugh's file," adding that "this update must be limited in scope and completed in less than one week."
The announcement came a day after Kavanaugh and his accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, gave their testimonies before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
"Republican leaders had little choice but to ask Mr. Trump to order the F.B.I. inquiry after Senator Jeff Flake, Republican of Arizona, first announced he was supporting Judge Kavanaugh, and then, in a stunning reversal, said he would not vote to confirm him without an F.B.I. investigation first," notes the New York Times.
