When Roseanne Barr got fired from her eponymous sitcom after sending out racist tweets, her ex-husband Tom Arnold wasn’t exactly sad about it. Now, on a new episode of Watch What Happens Live, the comedian revealed how he felt when he learned of rumors that Roseanne was killed off the show’s spin-off, The Connors. Watch the clip above to find out what went down!
Andy Cohen read a question from a viewer: “Wanting to know your thoughts on ABC killing off the character of Roseanne.”
But Tom didn’t know! “Wait,” he said, deadly serious. “I hadn’t heard. Is that true? Oh my God.” The audience laughed. Andy asked what he thought.
“I think, uhhh, boy,” the 59-year-old said, struggling for words. “Now matter what I say it’s a… oh boy. I don’t think they’re gonna ask me back either way you look at it.” Tom wrote for the show during its original run.
“I don’t know what to think,” he said, his head in his hand. “I think this. Sara Gilbert is a jinx on every show she’s on this year.” When the crowd didn’t laugh, he added, “I’m kidding.” He was referring to not only Roseanne’s departure from her sitcom, of which Sara is the executive producer, but also Julie Chen‘s departure from The Talk. Sara hosts and produces that daytime talk show as well.
“I wish them all the best,” Tom concluded. “I don’t…boy, I don’t know.”
These were pretty kind words coming from the outspoken comedian. His ex-wife was fired from the show after sending racist tweets about Valerie Jarrett, a former White House Advisor. In May, he said she was a “loose cannon” who was purposefully trying to get her show canceled.
Earlier this month, Tom found himself the center of a tiny controversy. He has a new show, The Hunt For the Trump Tapes, where he searches for alleged recordings of President Donald Trump using racial slurs and committing other offensive behavior. At an Emmys party, he got into a fight with Apprentice producer Mark Burnett, allegedly over the tapes.
