Siwa Sardjoemissier saw more than he’d bargained for when he paid a visit to Artis Zoo in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He was filming the lions in their enclosure when one of the lions spotted a heron and natural instincts kicked in.
The lioness patiently watched the heron, waiting for the right moment to pounce. When the time was right, she ran to the bird with stealthy and impressive speed. The heron tried to fly away at the last moment, but was too late. The lioness jumped up and pulled the bird down with her paws. Credit: Siwa Sardjoemissier via Storyful
