Assaamese film ‘Village Rockstars’ has been selected as India’s official entry to Oscar’s beating blockbusters like Padmaavat and Padman. Notably, this is a film from the North East. A region that is often perceived to be neglected. With Village Rockstars representing India at the Oscars, it sends a big message of inclusivity too. The coming of age film was helmed by national award winning director Rima Das. It is the story of 10-year-old Dhunu, a young girl from a remote village in Assam, who dreams of owning a guitar and forming a rock band.
