GOP Florida Governor Candidate Resigns From Congress Republican Representative and Florida Governor candidate Ron DeSantis has resigned from Congress. The 39-year-old has represented Florida’s 6th Congressional District since 2013. DeSantis says his campaign would keep him out of DC for most of remaining House sessions before the November election. Ron DeSantis, via resignation letter DeSantis is currently in a very close race with his Democratic opponent, Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum. Just weeks into his campaign, he has also been hobbled by questions about his racial insensitivity. He's also been criticized for past associations with far-right activists who have expressed controversial views about race.
