Former President Obama on Friday slammed the US decision to withdraw from the Paris agreement.

Former President Obama has mocked the current administration's decision to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement.
During a speech in Illinois Friday, he said of the Republicans in power, "They've made it so that the only nation on Earth to pull out of the global climate agreement, it's not North Korea, it's not Syria, it's not Russia or Saudi Arabia, it's us. The only country. There are a lot of countries in the world. We're the only ones."
President Trump announced the controversial move last June, announcing during a press conference that "the United States will cease all implementation of the non-binding Paris Accord and the draconian financial and economic burdens the agreement imposes on our country."
"Not only does this deal subject our citizens to harsh economic restrictions, it fails to live up to our environmental ideals," Trump explained at the time. "As someone who cares deeply about the environment, which I do, I cannot in good conscience support a deal that punishes the United States -- which is what it does -- the world's leader in environmental protection, while imposing no meaningful obligations on the world's leading polluters."
However, the Washington Post pointed out that despite the withdrawal, set to take place in 2020, and ongoing efforts to rollback environmental regulations, the U.S. is on track to reduce its emissions thanks to market forces.
