A butchery in a Paris suburb was tagged with animal rights slogans and had its windows broken in a type of attack that has been on the increase in France.

Footage filmed in Épinay-sur-Orge on Monday (September 3) shows the Boucherie du Parc with smashed windows and yellow spray-paint reading: "Stop Speciesism".

Speciesism, according to its proponents, involves the assigning of different rights or values to individuals based on their species membership.

The incident occurred on Saturday (September 1) but no-one has claimed responsibility for the incident.

The attack follows a series of copycat incidents throughout France.

In nearby Jouy-en-Josas, a butchery suffered a similar vandalisation on July 2.

In the Hauts-de-France region, seven butcheries and fishmongers have been attacked using similar methods since April.

In total, 50 butcheries have been targeted by militant groups this year, according to the French Confederation of Butcheries-Charcuteries and Caterers (CFBCT).
