The moment a major landslide burst into a terrifying shower of rocks in the Himalayas.
The earth came loose, causing the boulders to cascade down onto a highway below.
Fortunately, no one was hurt. Officials had anticipated the landslide and stopped traffic, clearing the area.
The incident occurred near Ojri Dabarkot in Uttarkashi district of Uttarkhand, India, on September 1.
The landslide blocked the Yamunotri highway for more than 12 hours as officials deployed several diggers to remove loose earth and rocks.
The highway is a popular route for pilgrims heading towards sacred Hindu shrines in the Himalayas.
Vikram Singh, who was on his way to the Badrinath temple, said that the "boulders rained like pebbles. It looked like someone was shooting them with a shotgun. Fortunately, we could enjoy nature’s show from a safe distance.”
