Those who happened upon this beach in South Carolina’s Pawleys Island recently witnessed an extremely rare occurrence.
Members of the South Carolina United Turtle Enthusiasts organization were itemizing loggerhead sea turtle hatchlings before releasing them into the ocean at high tide.
The video shared to Facebook on August 23, shows the newly hatched turtles attempting to escape the plastic container that they have been placed in by the volunteers.
In a later post the organization stated that the 11 hatchlings achieved a “92% hatch success and 82% emergence success” from their nest. Credit: South Carolina United Turtle Enthusiasts via Storyful
